Moving 101: Learn What Items Movers Won’t Move

Moving is stressful with many things to track. Therefore, several people enlist the services of a professional residential moving company for a smooth move and stress-free moving experience. When hiring professional movers, you must be aware of the prohibited items that most moving companies won’t transport. They do so for safety reasons or legal compliance.

Hazardous and flammable objects

For long-distance moves, it is best to get rid of any chemicals, hazardous materials, flammables, and explosives safely. Live plants

Moving companies need a special license to move live plants further than 150 miles from their original location. 

Pets

Pets, including dogs, cats, birds, and fish, are not allowed on moving trucks due to unfavorable conditions. Consider transporting furry friends with pet shipping companies, personal vehicles, airplanes, or hire a pet relocation company.

Perishable items

Movers probably won’t agree to transport perishable food items as they can damage other belongings and make a huge mess. They spoil quickly and attract pests or develop mold. Avoid packing them and consider consuming or donating products like frozen foods, dairy products, refrigerated food, open cans, and containers before the move.

Anything irreplaceable

Moving companies avoid carrying valuables and irreplaceable items like family heirlooms, jewelry, personal documents, artworks, keepsakes, collections, credit or debit cards, keys, laptops, airline tickets, medicines, and medical devices, wills, passports, stocks, bonds, photo albums, and currency. People can carry items of personal and sentimental value with them in a separate bag. If anything gets lost, damaged, or stolen during the move, it is hard to reimburse or restore these prized possessions with money or other similar items. 

Some movers do not have the specialization and skills to move items like a piano, pool table, and other similar heavy objects. Have a word with the movers to avoid issues later.
